We are coming into the busiest time of year for us at Russell Smith Farms. Whilst some crops are still growing for harvest later in the season, we are beginning to harvest others. Irrigation has been keeping everyone busy due to the dry weather in July. We have also been hosting visits to the farm from a wide range of people including schools, the local Cub pack, gardening clubs as well as a party of visitors from Germany.
Potatoes We have started harvesting the early varieties including the Organic Nicola and Organic Maris Peer. Maincrop varieties continue to be irrigated for harvesting at the end of August and into September and October. Onions Last week we started harvesting the first of our organic onions. Sweetcorn Our Sweetcorn is recovering from the crows and is in need of warm settled weather in order for it to be ready for harvesting at the end of August. |
